The crunching of the leaves beneath your feet were the only sounds to pass through the almost bare trees around you. Everything was in autumn colours, the leaves, the ground, even the air smelled like autumn. That being said, there's nothing better than a walk in the silent woods, when all you can see is a dirt path and falling leaves.

You smiled to yourself, shoving your hands in your jacket pockets and snuggling your face into the black and white checkered scarf that hung around your neck. The scarf obviously not helping much, as your cheeks and nose were a soft shade of pink.

While listening to the wind passing by your ears and the leaves doing summersaults around you, you noticed that you could hear panting behind you, likely from an animal. A dog, maybe?
Turning around to see what it was, a dog immediately bumped into your knees, sending you falling backwards and onto your butt.

"What in the-" you were cut off by the dog licking your face relentlessly. Having a soft spot for such creatures, you reached up and petted the dog's fuzzy muzzle. Your hand became slightly damp from the dewdrops that had made their home on the muzzle beforehand, but you didn't mind too much, you could wipe it off anyhow.
From down on the ground, you could get a better look at the dog. As soon as he stopped liking your face, of course. A tongue was not something that was very identifying.  When he did, you could see that he was a German Shepard, and a very friendly one at that.

"Hey buddy, where did you come from?" you asked the dog, who obviously wouldn't answer. However, your question was answered by a figure running towards you. The man appeared to be on the taller side, blonde, slicked back hair, and piercing blue eyes. Of which were staring angrily at the dog.

"Kommen." the gruff voice commanded to the dog, in a clear German accent.

The dog immediately complied, tail between his legs as he slowly stalked over to the German man.

"I apologise."

You hadn't even noticed that the man had walked up to you until he had said something directly to you.

"It's fine, you have a very friendly dog," you said with a smile, reaching up and grasping his hand that he held out for you and lifted yourself up.

Upon seeing your body upright again, the dog lifted his ears and tail, then began to lean against your leg. He was indeed a very friendly dog. You didn't complain, you loved dogs, and this one was no exception.

You giggled, reaching down and petting the German Shepard's head.

"What's his name?" you asked, looking up at the German man with curious eyes.

"Ah, Berlitz." he replied. You couldn't tell if his cheeks were red from the encounter, or from the cold.

"You're German?" you asked before your brain could filter out your words.

"Ja, I'm a Berliner." the German man said, slicking back his hair. You figured it was simply a nervous tick.

"My name is ______, by the way. What's yours?" you held out your hand for him to shake, a smile across your features.

The man took your hand politely, his grip firm as he shook your hand. "Ludwig." he answered you gruffly. He had the voice of a proud man, but he seemed a bit shy, you noted.

"Well, Ludwig. Would you mind if I continued to walk with you?" you asked. You would appreciate the company, as peaceful as your walk had once been. You wanted to get to know Ludwig a bit better anyhow, as he seemed like an interesting man to say the least.

"Ah," Ludwig started, not quite sure what to say. After a few seconds, he recovered, however. "I see no problems with that." He finished, pulling the leash so Berlitz would walk with him on his right, while you were walking on his left.

The time went by so quickly with Ludwig, from the small conversations about dogs to the vastness of the universe that happened to have no edge. Whatever Ludwig said, seemed to matter, seemed to count. There was no finesse or useless blathering, only things that mattered, facts and sentences with a clear point. You began to like Ludwig, and you liked him even more as he started to open up to you.

Ludwig was kind enough to walk you to your apartment building down on Reef Street, Berlitz loyally following beside him. Your conversation continued until you were standing on the front steps of the building.

"Thank you for walking me home, I had a lot of fun." You said, a bright smile crossing your face. You did enjoy your time together. "Would you mind if we did this again, sometime?" you asked, hoping he'd respond with an appreciative yes.

And indeed he did. "It was no problem." Ludwig replied, shaking your hand. "And doing this again would be welcome." He added.
You couldn't help but smile wider, nodding in confirmation. "I will see you soon, then." You said, leaning over and managing to kiss Ludwig's cheek before he left.

Ludwig's cheeks could have not been a brighter shade of red than it was then, shining like a Christmas light. "J-Ja." He said, returning the kiss to your cheek and then, rather hurriedly, retreating from the steps. "Gute Nacht."

Biting your lip to conceal the grins and the small giggles, you replied as best you could, "Gute Nacht, Ludwig."
Letting you know that I'm not dead. Yet <3.
Here's a little one-shot for you guys.
I LOVE YOU ALL.
HAVE FUN.
